89 kg of Ivory Seized Based on MEP Intelligence

Mara Elephant Project in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is pleased to announce that jointly we’ve had three recent successful operations that netted the seizure of 89 kg of ivory and four suspects arrested.     The first joint operation took place on June 19 in Naivasha when 41 kg (12 pieces) of ivory were seized, along with two illegal leopard skins. MEP Q2 C.E.O. Report

It’s been a busy second quarter for Mara Elephant Project with several notable arrests by rangers, a new collared elephant, continued successful partnerships, increased fundraising and a few new hires and internships that have increased MEP’s capacity. MEP Q2 Fundraising & Communications Report

Mara Elephant Project had some exciting fundraising developments in the last quarter. In April, we received funding from a US-based family foundation that protected an elephant for three years by funding the collaring, monitoring and research of that elephant candidate. In May, MEP received $55,000 from several generous donors, two of which were previous donors.
