The Mara Elephant Project rangers have been working hard to ensure the safety and security of the Mara’s elephants and residents alike. I was proud of our response to a human-elephant conflict situation in October where a matriarch of a large herd had been speared multiple times and was at risk of death. The good news is that the number of poached elephants decreased in 2016, the bad news is that human-elephant conflict has increased significantly, which is why adding the Robinson R44 helicopter to the Mara Elephant Project HEC Toolkit was so crucial. A Word About MEP Fundraising

The last quarter of the year was very positive and we received some significant donations, which are hugely important in terms of enabling Mara Elephant Project to carry out its work to safeguard elephants in the Mara. Firstly, MEP is hugely grateful to Sue Anschutz-Rodgers for her generous donation towards fuel and maintenance of the helicopter.
